Exploring light and colour through glass for over 20 years.
Hi, I’m Vix.
I studied art at St Albans College of Art and Design, followed by a degree in Jewellery and Silversmithing at Sheffield Polytechnic (now Hallam), and a postgraduate year at Bretton Hall College, in the stunning Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
After beginning my career as a secondary school art teacher, and later teaching drawing and painting in higher and further education, I retrained in stained glass when my children were young. I’ve now been running my own glass studio for over 22 years.
I create and teach from my bespoke garden studio on the Shirley/Hall Green border, as well as at Midlands Arts Centre (MAC).
Alongside commissions, I particularly enjoy creating work for galleries and exhibitions.
My work combines traditional painted and kiln-fired stained glass with fused glass techniques, and is rooted in life drawing, an essential part of my practice. My love of outdoor swimming also finds its way into my work, influencing themes, movement and atmosphere.
I’m continually inspired by the way stained glass transforms light, how colour shifts and comes alive as it passes through.
I love opening my studio during open studio events, it’s a joy to share both the space and the process behind the work.
If you’d like to follow my work, visit the studio or talk about a commission, I’d love to hear from you.
