I’m Tara Harris, a contemporary artist based in Kings Heath painting intuitive inner landscapes.
After years of balancing teaching and caregiving, I have established a practice that fluctuates between my home and a new studio in Stirchley.
My process involves painting, painting and more painting! I stop when I’m happy with the visual energy of the piece. This often takes several sittings, so I have lots of paintings on the go, about fifteen presently.
My work is rooted in Surrealist automatism and the concept of landscape as a psychological space. My own work is rooted in an automatic way of painting, where I treat the landscape more like a psychological headspace. I am a big fan of Peter Doig as his work feels like a blurred line between a real place and a dream.
I enjoy discussing how people relate to my work and it’s fascinating how one piece can trigger a nostalgic memory for one person while sparking an emotion or the discovery of hidden shapes for another.
Thank you UASB for featuring me this week. I really do appreciate being part of this community.
