Sam Weeks

Hello everyone, I’m Sam.

I’m an abstract painter, working with acrylics, often with a smidge of collage, oil pastels and spray paint. The easiest way to describe what I do is to say - I paint ideas rather than things.

My artist voice has developed over years of honing a visual language that feels authentically mine - circles and asemic writing being recurring features. That said, I’m always exploring new themes and ways of communicating them – predictability and stagnation are kryptonite to my creativity.

I’ve been making art for decades, using various media – from performance to stained glass (useless fact – I helped make the round windows at the top of the IKON tower!). I’ve even been a singer-songwriter and written poetry, but painting’s been my m.o. for about 15 years. Applying paint to a surface seems the natural vehicle for my instinct to share ideas, albeit suggesting rather than spelling them out, leaving space for interpretation.
