Hi! I’m Mayuri (Muh-you-ree) - I’m an interdisciplinary artist, a data manager, serial-crafter and a wife and a mum.

I turned to art-making years after completing a Chemistry degree - I went along to a craft evening, dabbled in crochet and I was HOOked (😂).

For a long while I had thought that I had to choose between science and art, and I’ve realised now that one cannot exist without the other.

Over the years I continued with crochet, discovered zentangling and noticed the positive impact on my mental health whenever I engaged in some form of creativity.

I reminded myself of the creative endeavours I did as a child and found myself fondly remembering the riot of colour and pattern at Indian weddings that I’d attended with my family.

Now, I create graphic, line-drawn works usually referencing this Indian heritage; an expression of this comes out in my ‘zoom art’ - created during zoom meetings, as well as my mehndhi inspired works - Chokkas Aasha (sold) and Vortex.

I relief print lino-cut - I’m enjoying learning the craft and experimenting - my prints seem to nature-based and evolving. I want to attempt a reduction print next.

I’ve also explored encaustic work in the last year.

In addition to that I create visual notes from meetings, videos, courses, keynotes and at conferences.

I largely create alongside my employed role as a data insight manager, and co-director of (coach and artist in) Hargest Creative Limited with my husband Kevin.

We work with micro and SMEs to improve their staff wellbeing, through creative wellbeing workshops, team building events and consultancy on holistic wellbeing practices, and would love to see our artwork in a local office one day!

Creativity touches my everyday in many different facets, whether making, playing or working, so its great to share this through markets and so many other means too.

A particular joy since moving to Birmingham (from Wales) has been to meet the wonderfully creative artists that make up the community of United Artists of South Birmingham - we couldn’t have settled here so well without you all - thank you!
