I am Originally from Shropshire and self-taught. My first adventure into oil painting was in 1985 and I have loved it ever since.
I exclusively paint from photographs that I have taken myself.
The main subjects of my work are townscapes, buildings and working vehicles. The photos are blown up to A3, the same size as the canvas. I trace the photograph and transfer the image onto stretched canvas. Some drawing is usually needed to embellish what is on the canvas, as tracing onto stretched canvas is not an exact science. After this I will underpaint the canvas and add layers, until the painting is done. The paintings can take up to 150 hours to complete.
I have been fortunate to have a lot of local support and I enjoy painting Kings Heath. However currently I am working on tower cranes as they dominate the city skyline. They are very satisfying to paint!
I have been lucky to have a great support of many artists and friends, especially UASB members. ❤️
